Obamacare Will Lead to Loss of Millions of US Healthcare Jobs

The US economy has lost 7.8 million jobs since the start of this recession, and jobs are not coming back. Obamacare will lead to the loss of millions of healthcare jobs before the end of the decade.

There is already a trend for doctors to opt out of government programs, which will accelerate as more people are covered under Obamacare. Doctors who remain in practice will be overburdened, much the same as Massachusetts doctors, where cardiologists see as many as 9 patients at one time; having them sign non disclosures to protect each other's medical information.

Insurance plans, forced to lower deductibles and include pre-existing conditions, will increase demand for medical care. The combination of an increase in medical demand and a decrease in medical supply will drive up costs, ultimately raising premiums for everyone. The need to reduce costs has spurred the growth of the medical tourism industry. Medical tourism facilitators lure patients overseas for medical care based on perceived cost savings. Facilitators often mark up the price for overseas medical care by 20% to 80% and accept kickbacks from the hospitals. Because state medical licensing boards prohibit fee splitting, medical facilitators primarily send patients to overseas destinations. This effectively creates a subsidy for medical tourism which is denied to domestic providers, outsourcing healthcare jobs.

With a developing doctor shortage, and increased costs of medical care, insurance companies will be under pressure to slash costs elsewhere. Insurers have already started signing up overseas hospitals in an attempt to increase supply of medical providers. Deloitte, in 2008, estimated that between $228 billion, and $599.5 billion annually will be lost from the US medical economy by 2017. That will mean millions of lucrative medical jobs permanently lost.

Other ways Washington plans on reducing cost is through electronic health records and "cost effectiveness" initiatives. Bureaucrats in DC study patients' electronic health records, and attempt to automate medicine. We might even have an overseas call center taking health calls with the assistance of computerized symptom checkers. Price controls are driving a move towards less costly nurse practitioners, and physician assistants rather than medical doctors to provide care. Is this consistent with the quality of care Americans demand?

How will the US cope with the loss of millions of lucrative healthcare jobs, especially just when baby boomers are retiring, becoming Medicare eligible and in need of more medical care?

Can we continue to prosper as bad policies send high end healthcare jobs overseas? In one generation, we have seen manufacturing, phone answering, and computer programming outsourced, leading to growing trade deficits. The country which no longer makes its own tanks and ships will never be powerful. The country which cannot take care if it's sick, cannot remain a great nation.

The reimbursement rates of medical treatment are set by Medicare for 14,000+ procedures. This price fixing, along with perverse utilization incentives embedded in health plans has caused massive healthcare inflation for decades, while eroding the patient/physician relationship. Lowering reimbursement percentages for doctors has forced a reduction in the time given to each patient, thereby reducing the quality of care. Insurance plans with lower deductibles increase demand and when spending the insurance provider's money rather than their own, patients continue to accept this type of treatment. The only way to bring down costs, while improving quality, is through competition. Just look at how much Lasik surgery has come down in price, while quality has increased due to competition. When doctors compete based on cost, quality and value, patients win. Often, simply crossing state lines for care can save a lot of money.

Rather than using government to drive healthcare jobs away, we should embrace prosperity by increasing meaningful healthcare competition.

Continuing along the current path, doctors will be substituted by non-MD "medical providers," who will become order takers. This current path of coercion, will lead to increased cost, and decreased quality. Allowing doctors to compete and bid on your care the way other American businesses do, is the only path to sustainable healthcare reform.

How Toys and Games Can Help Your Children Chose Their Future Career

Everyone knows that child's play can be a repetition for their life as adults. A boy who plays with doctor toys may become a doctor, a girl that love playing with dresses will become a fashion designer and someone who loves to draw will be a painter or a graphic designer. Yeah, sure. And what will become the kid who loves to play shooting games on their PCs? A professional killer? Not of course!

Things are not literal. When playing, kids explore different aspects of life and there is no direct relation between the play and their future realization. Not as straight relation at least, that's for sure.

However there are many ways to use toys and games indirectly to attract children's interest into different careers. There is also a chance that you offer to your kids many different toys and games they will play most with those that suit most their individuality. For example kids who like outdoor play and toys don't need to become football players or professional travelers but it's clear that they are more extrovert and are likely to make a good career in sale for example. Kids who prefer indoor scientific toys and brain games are obviously introvert and may like professions like engineering, writing or even science (but it's not a straight relation that a kid who plays with a telescope will become and astronomer!).

So how can watching the child's play and directing it help the children future life?

First and most important: don't try to manipulate the kid and draw it into the area that you believe is best for it. If you push too hard or underestimate your kid's sense of false you may repel it from an area that the child could otherwise really like. If you really hope that your son or daughter may follow your career path make sure to offer enough toys and games that help him or her build some interest into the area. But if you see the kid has no interest at all, try to find out what it really likes, accept that and love it.

There are no recipes for making your kid a scientist or a singer. But your talented and delicate guidance in the play can help the child to discover its real passion. Here are some basic ideas that come out of my head and experience - I am sure you can suggest more if you think about that:

- Kids that like playing with character toys could be empathic and may become good psychoanalysts, teachers, life coaches
- Children most keen on sport games are very likely to become good sportsmen. This is a very straight relation.
- Kids who love math games and other mind games can find good realization in engineering and computers
- Building games and meccanos don't always make builders but kids who like them most are very creative and can look into careers that require creativity
- Girls who prefer doll houses over the dolls themselves and doll clothes may have some kind of design talent
- If you hope your son may become a lawyer don't give him to read law books but try to involve him into role playing games.

And so on. It requires some thinking out of the box to figure out how toys and games can draw children's path to the future. Remember: no pushing, just a little guiding. I'm sure you'll love your kids no matter what careers they chose but it's always good if you can help them get explore their creativity and talents through play.

For example I loved and still love mechanical toys and especially crank toys. I didn't become a mechanic neither a crank:-) But my profession is technical so I believe there is some relation.

If you do not want to build it yourself, research the price of hiring a contractor or playground installer. Ask family and friends for a referral, check your yellow page listings, or research handy man services in your area. When hiring a contractor references are a must so do your homework.

Delivery Methods

If you purchase from a local dealer you will need to ask the question, "How much do you charge for delivery"? Do not assume that the price quoted in the store includes delivery. Often, the charge is free if you are within a 50 mile radius of the store (check store policies) or the fee is calculated per mile. Another option is to pick up the unit yourself, just make sure you have someone to help you load the cartons as they weight hundreds of pounds. Make sure you have a large truck that can handle the weight and length of the cartons as most swing sets are palatalized and shrink wrapped for delivery.

Delivery by a freight company is the most common method of transporting a playset. It will arrive via a semi truck often referred to as an LTL carrier. This is one of the economical ways and deserves consideration. This method is considered a residential delivery to the curbside and not into the backyard. Being prepared will make it easier and you will need an adult helper to assist in unloading at the end of truck. Someone must be present for inspection of the cartons and to sign for delivery.
