We live in a time where people get scammed each day on the web. From offers to receive millions of dollars from some unknown lottery, to people wanting to send you thousands of dollars in exchange for a service or product, it is no wonder that we get very suspicious when we see offers for free toys. So, I don't know about you, but every time I see a site that promises a Free iPhone 4 or a Free iPad or HDTV, I feel like something may be wrong. Or is there?
Let me tell you something, I actually decided to investigate one of those websites that claim to offer a free Apple iPhone. At first I was a bit hesitant, after all, these things are out of stock at the store and so I couldn't believe that someone would give one away for free. I mean, what's the catch, right?
Well, to my surprise, it turns out that some of these offers are actually legit and what happens is that you receive a unit to test. The instructions are to use the product like you normally would: I mean, stick it in your pocket with your keys and change and see if it scratches. Clutch it, grab it and see if calls get dropped, etc. After a few days of testing it, you are supposed to answer a couple of questions online and that's it. I got to keep the iPhone 4 for free! Not too bad, huh?
But let me tell you something, not all websites that offer promises for free gadgets are actually legitimate. Some are actually scams so you must be very careful. For example, I came across some that asked for some "shipping and handling" money. But fortunately, I discovered that the ones that are actually serious and trustworthy do not ask for any money from you. Just a zip code or an email address and that is it.
